2000 HP BLEEDER FAN DRIVE SYSTEM
THE MANUFACTURER’S CHALLENGE
Bleeder fans are essential components of mine ventilation systems. Under typical circumstances, the construction and commissioning of a bleeder fan may extend up to 12 months. In recognition of the pivotal impact these systems have on both mine safety compliance and operational productivity, the client pursued a more efficient and streamlined solution for fan implementation.
COALMONT’S TURN-KEY SOLUTION
Coalmont designed and delivered a complete 2000 HP, 4160V bleeder fan drive system in a prefabricated E-House building on a transportable skid. The system features a Siemens medium voltage drive with dual-source power redundancy, allowing the customer to energize the drive from either the utility grid or a diesel generator. Custom switchgear provides the necessary isolation and source selection with required safeties and permissives. To ride through utility-to-generator transfers, a battery bank DC power supply maintains power to all critical relay and control equipment. Utility-to-diesel switchover is automatic via custom PLC controls, with manual return to utility by maintenance personnel.
The skid-mounted E-House design was critical to the project requirements—it allows the customer to easily relocate the equipment to a new site with a dozer while minimizing infrastructure costs. The skids were designed to be positioned over appropriate ground grid with embedded conduits for connection to the motor and minewide communications network. This factory-tested approach accelerates project schedules, ensures quality control, and delivers a controlled environment for sensitive drive equipment in harsh surface mining conditions. Warrior Met Coal gains reliable ventilation control with automatic power source failover, modern diagnostics, and MSHA-compliant design.
