PAPER MACHINE WINDER STAND-ALONE REGULATOR

THE MANUFACTURER’S CHALLENGE

This project was necessitated by the limitations of an aging stand-alone regulator system that was critical to maintaining precise speed and torque control in the paper winding process. As the legacy system became increasingly difficult to support, challenges emerged in maintaining consistent product quality, with variability in tension and winding performance affecting overall output. Reliability concerns and limited availability of replacement parts introduced additional risk of unplanned downtime. Furthermore, the constraints of outdated control technology restricted the ability to optimize system performance. A modernized solution was required to improve control accuracy, enhance system reliability, and ensure the upgrade could be executed within tight production windows to minimize operational disruption.

COALMONT’S TURN-KEY SOLUTION

Coalmont provided engineering and installation services to replace the PM1 Winder Rear Drum Stand-Alone Regulator (SAR) system with modern control technology. This specialized project addressed precision speed control requirements for paper winding operations, replacing obsolete control technology while maintaining or improving winding quality and production rates.  

This project reflects a strong understanding of paper machine winder systems, where precise speed regulation and torque control are critical to product quality, along with the ability to execute upgrades within limited production windows to minimize mill downtime.
